Life Divided Into Before and After

There was a moment a sharp break between “before” and “after.” That moment changed everything.
Before my stroke, life moved at a pace I didn’t question. I had routines, energy, plans, comfort, certainty. I didn’t think much about how fragile life could be. I didn’t realize how quickly everything can shift.
Then came the stroke. Just like that, life wasn’t that same steady lane anymore. Recovery became the new terrain, and I had to learn how to move through it but slowly, step by step.
What I see now, looking back, is that the stroke didn’t just change my body’s strength or my speech. It changed how I view time, patience, and progress. What I used to take for granted a clear thought, a confident step, a quick movement suddenly became something I had to rebuild.
This post isn’t about pity or struggle. It’s about truth. It’s about honoring that there is a before and an after. Recovery doesn’t erase what came before. But it teaches you a new way of walking forward.
If you’re reading this and you’re in that early fog of change, I see you. You’re in a season of transition. You’re learning a new rhythm. Give yourself space to feel that.
Every day isn’t a victory. But every day is a chance to keep moving forward.
